Collaborative Projects & Community Partnerships

“It was such a brilliant positive fun group. It helped my mental health in so many positive ways and I am so glad to have taken part and met so many amazing talented people… At the beginning there was no way I thought I would ever sing in front of an audience but I did. Very proud of us a group. The tutors were so encouraging and positive. Very grateful to have had this opportunity.”

Songwriters Club with 'The Glasgow Barons'

The Gilded Lily Songwriters Club began as a collaboration project with the Glasgow Barrons – a music program based in Govan – in 2021. The group met once a week to learn songwriting, performance, vocal & instrumental skills which helped them to write three original songs together & perform them at Govan’s very own music festival.

Since then, the Gilded Lily Songwriters have performed at various local events, written more original songs & released their first ever single & music video “Women of the World” as ‘The Gilded Lilies’. Click below to hear the song & watch the video!

“Just by Amanda & Olivia (tutors) patiently listening to my ideas and acknowledging them, really helped with my confidence and self worth. So much so that I started to voice more & more of my ideas without the fear of being put down… the bonding in the group we have formed and the social aspect has benefited all of us. We are all single women living alone with our own challenges… I feel I become alive when I sing & especially performing, I had forgotten what it was like being upbeat”.

Sewing Programs with Glasgow Clyde College

Gilded Lily have collaborated with Clyde College to help women gain confidence in their sewing skills.  We have been working together for the past 4 years with the initial collaboration programme focusing on upcycling materials.

Women that participate and complete the course are awarded a certified qualification.  There are 2 qualifications the women can work towards:

Basic sewing Skills Stage 1 SCQF Level 3

Basic sewing Skills Stage 2 SCQF Level 4

Attending the sewing course has helped the women not only gain sewing skills but helped combat isolation and form friendships.

“The sewing program & teacher broke down what previously seemed like daunting tasks into simple processes & gave me the confidence to tackle so many things I would have previously avoided in sewing.” – Linda, participant.

“I joined the course to help my mental health and have a bit of breathing space from life.  It has helped immensely and I look forward to coming each week.” – anonymous participant of the sewing program.

“I can’t think of anything more appropriate than re-wilding women. We need to be in touch with nature to really thrive…Vicky makes the course fun, interesting and deep. She has great knowledge she’s happy to share with us all and gives us skills for coping with stress in a very easeful way. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone on the course and I’m excited to see what else we cover. I love the wee rituals and habits we’re forming, I enjoy the local plant lore and the lovely atmosphere Vicky creates. Thank you so much for this course; sometimes it’s the only nourishing thing I have for myself in the week. I’m so grateful for this space”.

'Wilderness Wellbeing' with The Little Foragers Kitchen

This unique 8-week program incorporates wellbeing activities such as calming breathing exercises, mindfulness, self-awareness etc. into outdoor tasks including foraging, fire-building, willow-whittling +lots more!

Sessions are run in Elder Park, Govan, led by Vicky of The Little Foragers Kitchen who encourages participants to engage with and support each other to create a safe & welcoming space where the group can feel at ease and enjoy being outdoors.

Sessions also often involve a creative element such as using natural materials like flower petals & mushrooms to use as ink for painting. We very much hope to continue working with Vicky in future to deliver similar programs as there has been great feedback from participants. Intergenerational Skills Sharing with Govan Craft Café

As a result of feedback from our W4W programs we linked in with Govan’s Craft Café to deliver a 4-week intergenerational working project for Craft Café members aged 60+ and Gilded Lily women aged between 18-30. The program had the 2 different generations of women come together to share their knowledge and expertise, learn new skills and support other women in the local community through a skills exchange at Gilded Lily premises and the Craft Café on alternate weeks. This allowed women in the community to meet new people, share their skills and raised awareness of other projects they could attend.

'Wooly Workshops' with The Govan Stones

Gilded Lily partnered up with Emma Semple at Govan Stones to deliver a 4-week heritage program of arts & craft led by museum volunteers and guest presenters from the world of textiles/ fabrics/ heritage and the final week included a trip to the Burrell Collection in Pollok Park. The aim of the project was to get families involved in heritage-based activities, specifically women and children from Govan with a focus on New Scots. This provided an opportunity for women and families to engage in different activities and to learn about the culture and traditions of the area.

“We had a lot of fun… the session was so creative, and everyone was helpful and kind”.

Make Do & Grow CIC

We have collaborated on many occasions with MD&G, a local project supporting children and families. They have provided children’s arts and crafts at our community events as well as childminding facilities that allowed participants to take part in our programs and activities where childcare would have prevented them from doing so. Throughout COVID they very generously provided our families with free toys and books through their toy library as well as children’s craft packs.

Moogety Grubhub

We have been supported greatly by Moogety over the years providing cooking classes, REHISS certificates, use of their garden and kitchen, provision of Dig-in shop vouchers for our women as well as providing us with a raised bed planter.
